Mums, Dads & Carers,

I know this is such an uncertain & overwhelming time.

We are experiencing so much change in our daily lives and homes.

About your child and their therapy, I would like to say this to you…..

“Can I encourage everyone first to try a few sessions before you make up your mind about this new way of supporting our kids.

I know you are tired, and there’s been so much change already, but this is a real opportunity for some continuity in our children’s lives.

I’m a parent peer worker, and I’ve heard that many families are having surprising and very positive results.

Our therapists are making HUGE efforts to make this all work.

We don’t know how long this will go on for, so give your child the opportunity to trial this for a few sessions before you say it won’t work.

Make the first sessions a parent-focused session and talk about what will and won’t work.

This is a chance to upskill yourself too.

Let the therapist observe you with your child and make some useful suggestions.

So many new opportunities and learnings can come from this.

I know you are overwhelmed and exhausted, but you are also innovative & resourceful.

All us parents of children with a disability are.

We are all transitioning through this challenge together.

And….. Think of all the time you will save not having to drive in traffic & wait in waiting rooms.”
