These workshops have changed my life in ways I never imagined possible. I found a link to this course at 3am, during a time I was completely broken and with no light at the end of the tunnel. After learning the journey of motherhood, it was so clear to me that I was stuck and needed to push to the balance step. I learnt that this step did exist, and other Mothers had reached it. This course taught me, yes it is hard for us Mothers who have kids with a disability, it wasn’t my lack of ability to be strong or cope compared to others. This course gave me permission to do things for me, ask for help, hand over responsibility to others and connect with things/people that give me joy again. It linked me to services, support groups and other Mothers groups that I never knew existed. It started with some small changes, and they have just multiplied. I have made over 20 changes to my life, and it won’t end just because the course did. I have goals to move towards and intend to keep making more. After so many years in darkness totally overwhelmed by my children’s needs, I am finally in the light again. Thank you for having this course, two amazing facilitators who gave me lots of little hints and encouragement in my journey and will always be the little voices inside my head that say… What have you done for yourself today?!

Kindred has partnered with Monash University to run FREE online Healthy Mothers Healthy Families© workshops.
Healthy Mothers Healthy Families (HMHF) is an evidence-based health education and empowerment program for mothers and female caregivers raising a child with a disability.
The mission of the Healthy Mothers Healthy Families program is to support, empower and encourage mothers to learn about, and create a healthy lifestyle that fosters their own health and well-being, alongside a healthy, happy family life.
Each program is delivered in 3 x 2-hour sessions over 6 weeks. The sessions cover:
- how to make positive changes to your health and wellbeing;
- research findings and the shared wisdom of other mothers;
- health information, tips and strategies;
- services and supports.

I completed the Healthy Mothers Healthy Families program, and this was a catalyst for a real change in thinking around maintaining my health and seeing support to do this as a basic requirement not a luxury. This course really encouraged me to rethink “sacrificing” for my family as neglecting all our well-being. I have completed several targeted workshops around preparing for school and advocacy that have made me feel informed and prepared. You guys rock.
I have never been more motivated than I am now that I’ve done the program, to find myself again and look after my well-being. I used to put my self-care at the bottom of the list and would never get around to do anything for me. I’ve flipped the lists and now I’m working out, I’m boxing again, I’m getting proper help, I’m birdwatching, I’m getting in shape, I’m joining in MyTime sessions and I’m such a better mother for doing all of it. Thank you, the stresses of being a carer are still part of my life, but I’m now coping, mindful and finding some joy for myself again.
