On 18 October 2022, the Hon Bill Shorten MP, Minister for the NDIS, announced a review of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

The review aimed to evaluate the NDIS’s design, operations, and sustainability, with the primary goal of putting people with disabilities back at the centre of the NDIS and restoring trust, confidence, and pride in it.

Kindred, in partnership with ACD VIC and Kiind WA, submitted a joint response to the NDIS review, which was informed by the voices of 278 families of children with disability.

The submission made 21 recommendations, which have been summarised into three key areas

  1. Better outcomes for children
  2. NDIS that works for children and families
  3. NDIS that is fair and easy to use.

Some of these recommendations include more core support to promote the inclusion of children in the community, introducing the concept of family plans, and much greater transparency around planning. With an aim to make the NDIS more accessible, inclusive, and effective for children with disability and their families.

At Kindred, we are committed to amplifying the voices of parents and caregivers to achieve the best possible outcomes for children and families. We are grateful to the families who contributed to our joint submission, as their experiences and insights will help ensure that children and families remain at the heart of future NDIS reform.
